Where Does tinc Store Network Config?
tinc keeps each VPN network in /etc/tinc/[netname] with tinc.conf, hosts, and keys inside.
Last updated
tinc organizes config by network name under /etc/tinc. Each network folder holds tinc.conf plus a hosts folder with peer files and public keys. Private keys sit beside them with strict permissions.
Up scripts in the network folder run on interface events. Copying a network folder clones everything except the keys you must regenerate. Test with tincd in debug mode before enabling the service.
Where tinc stores this, by platform
/etc/tinc/[netname]
tinc.conf plus hosts and keys per network name. Private keys stay chmod 600. Match netname to the service instance you enable.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a peer to tinc?
Exchange public host files into each side hosts folder and restart. Keys never travel over the mesh itself. Verify with ping across the tunnel.
Where are tinc private keys?
As rsa_key.priv or ed25519_key.priv inside the network folder. Generate with tinc generate-keys on first setup. Back them up offline, never in git.
