Where Is the ToFi Config File?

ToFi reads a plain config file from the tofi config folder. Prompt text, fonts, and drun matching live there.

Last updated

ToFi keeps a single text config under the XDG config home with one option per line. Prompt, fonts, colors, matching modes, and drun cache behavior all live there. Flags at launch override file values for one off runs.

The file is optional with sane Wayland defaults, so minimal installs skip it entirely. Drun mode caches desktop entries separately, which explains first launch delays on big app menus. History selection persists between runs. Drun ordering learns from launch counts between sessions.

Where ToFi stores this, by platform

Linux
/home/<username>/.config/tofi/config

Main config with one option per line. Prompt, fonts, and matching modes. Exact keys may vary by release.

Frequently asked questions

How do I configure ToFi?

Create the config file in the tofi config folder with key value lines. The example config in the repo documents every option.

How do I migrate ToFi?

Copy the tofi config folder to the new machine. No other state exists, so one folder moves the whole setup.
