Where Does Tower Store Settings and Repos?
Tower keeps service accounts and repo bookmarks in per OS app data, with working copies wherever you cloned them.
Last updated
Tower records service accounts, repo bookmarks, and the default clone directory in its own app data. Cloned code stays in your chosen dev folder. That is why reinstalling Tower keeps projects but forgets logins.
Set the default clone directory in Settings so one click clones land predictably. Undo history (Cmd or Ctrl plus Z) covers git actions inside Tower, not file moves outside it. Back up the config tree before major version jumps. Tokens deserve the same care as passwords.
Where Tower stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Tower
Exact interior may vary by version, check Roaming Tower if this does not match. Git itself can come bundled or system installed per Tower setup docs. Repos remain in your dev folders.
~/Library/Application Support/Tower
Same split as Windows. Service tokens for GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket live here, so treat backups as secrets. Re link accounts after migration if tokens refuse.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Tower to a new computer?
Install Tower plus git, copy the app data folder across with the app closed, then open and verify service accounts. Repos need clones or copies in matching paths for bookmarks to resolve.
Where do Tower clones go by default?
Wherever Settings and Default directory points. Change it before bulk cloning so new repos land in your current dev tree instead of an old default.
