Where Does Trillian Store Accounts and Logs?
Trillian files accounts and logs per user under an AppData Trillian folder, with DPAPI guarding stored passwords.
Last updated
Trillian organizes by identity first. A users directory holds one folder per login plus a global folder with the accounts database. Logs, avatars, and plugin data fan out beneath each.
Stored passwords encrypt with Windows DPAPI inside accounts.dat, which ties them to the account and machine. File copies move everything except the ability to read those passwords elsewhere. Very old installs predate AppData entirely and logged next to the exe.
Where Trillian stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Trillian\users
Per user folders with logs plus a global accounts.dat live here. Passwords need re-entering after moves thanks to DPAPI binding.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Trillian to a new PC?
Copy the users folder with Trillian closed. Accounts, logs, and settings travel together. Stored passwords decrypt only under the same Windows account thanks to DPAPI, so expect to re-enter those.
Where are the actual chat logs?
Modern versions keep per user log folders under users with accounts in a global accounts.dat. Ancient installs logged beside the program folder instead. Check AppData first on any recent version.
