Where Does Typos Store Config and Cache?

Typos _typos.toml config inside projects plus cache on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Last updated

Typos reads _typos.toml or typos.toml at the project root. There is no global config that matters for most repos.

Runs are stateless with no daemon. The project folder is portable. Moving machines needs only the repo plus the binary. Dictionaries extend the root file.

Where Typos stores this, by platform

Windows
[ProjectDir]\_typos.toml

Config at root (typos.toml also works). Keep it in git. No cache dir matters; each run scans fresh.

macOS
[ProjectDir]/_typos.toml

Same in-folder layout. Workspace members inherit the root file unless they add their own.

Linux
[ProjectDir]/_typos.toml

Same arrangement. CI runs typos with the same file. Exact filename variants (_typos.toml vs typos.toml) both work by version.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Typos config?

At _typos.toml in the project root. That file lists extends plus per file ignores. One root file beats scattered comments.

How do I ignore a false positive in Typos?

Add it to extend-words in _typos.toml and rerun. File level ignores live beside it. Commit the file so CI matches local runs.
