Where Does USBDeview Store Its Config?

USBDeview is fully portable: config lives in a CFG file beside the executable, device history in the registry.

Last updated

USBDeview keeps no data folder at all. Its own options sit in a small CFG file next to the executable, and the USB history it displays comes live from the registry on every launch.

That makes the tool a single movable pair: exe plus cfg. Deleting the cfg resets columns and options. Device records themselves live under USBSTOR keys and survive anything you do to the tool.

Where USBDeview stores this, by platform

Windows
<folder>\USBDeview.cfg

Options beside the executable. Device history reads from HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR live. Run as admin to see disconnected devices fully.

Frequently asked questions

how do i reset usbdeview settings

Delete USBDeview.cfg beside the exe. The device list repopulates from the registry on next launch, unchanged.

does deleting usbdeview remove usb history

No. History lives in the registry's USBSTOR keys, not in the tool. Uninstalling a device from inside USBDeview as admin is what actually clears records.
