Where Does Ventrilo Store Settings and Servers?

Ventrilo ventrilo2.ini location on modern Windows, why old installs kept it beside the exe, and moving servers over.

Last updated

Modern Ventrilo 3 clients keep everything in a single ventrilo2.ini under your Roaming AppData folder: server entries, usernames, key bindings and audio settings. One small file is the whole backup.

Version 2 kept that file beside the executable instead, which broke under modern Windows permissions and confuses anyone following old guides. If your Ventrilo folder has no ini next to it, you are on version 3 and the file lives in AppData. Copy it across machines with the client closed to move servers over.

Where Ventrilo stores this, by platform

Windows
%appdata%\Ventrilo\ventrilo2.ini

Ventrilo 3 location. Version 2 stored ventrilo2.ini in the program folder instead, so check beside vent.exe if this path is empty on an old install.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my Ventrilo server entries stored?

In ventrilo2.ini at %appdata%\Ventrilo on Ventrilo 3. Server names, addresses, ports and saved passwords all live in that one file, so copying it moves your full server list.

I upgraded Ventrilo and my settings vanished. Where did they go?

The version 2 ini beside the executable does not carry forward automatically. Copy the old ventrilo2.ini from the program folder into %appdata%\Ventrilo with the client closed and your servers return.
