Where Does Voicemod Store Sounds and Settings?

Where Voicemod keeps voices, soundboard sounds and settings on Windows.

Last updated

Voicemod keeps everything under its LocalAppData folder. Custom sounds land as .dat files in the memes subfolder (they are WAVs under the hood). Settings, voice mappings and soundboard links live in the same tree.

Version 2 stored profiles locally while version 3 moved toward cloud backup for custom content. That split explains most migration confusion. Export from inside the app before reinstalling, and treat the memes folder as a recovery source rather than the backup plan.

Where Voicemod stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Voicemod\

Root for settings, voices and the memes sound cache. Custom sounds sit in the memes subfolder as .dat files. Use in-app Export and Import for moves. Skip the cache and log files when copying by hand.

Frequently asked questions

My soundboard vanished. Can I recover the sounds?

Look in %LocalAppData%\Voicemod\memes for .dat files and rename copies to .wav to test them. Files sharing one creation date are usually yours. Then use Settings, General, Export for a proper backup going forward.

How do I move Voicemod to a new PC?

Use Settings, General, Export on the old PC and Import on the new one. Manual folder copies work for the memes cache, but the official export keeps voice and keybind mappings intact.
