Where Does Wacom Store Tablet Settings and Backups?
Wacom keeps live tablet settings in Wacom_Tablet.dat under AppData\Roaming\WTablet on Windows, with manual backup files (.wacomxs) made through the preference utility apps.
Last updated
Wacom settings live in a data file the driver rewrites whenever you calibrate or change a mapping. On Windows that file is Wacom_Tablet.dat inside AppData Roaming WTablet. Touch settings sit beside it in WacomTouch.xml. The driver regenerates these on login, so a missing file just means defaults until you set things again.
Portable backups are a separate thing. The preference utility apps export .wacomxs files you can carry between machines. Use those for migration. Copying the live .dat works too, but only with the driver stopped, otherwise your copy races the running driver.
Where Wacom stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\WTablet\Wacom_Tablet.dat
Rewritten on login and on every settings change. Copy it only with the driver stopped. The PrefUtil app in Program Files Tablet Wacom exports portable .wacomxs backups for moving between machines.
/Applications/Wacom Tablet.localized/Wacom Tablet Utility.app
Back up and restore through the Wacom Tablet Utility in Launchpad rather than by hunting plist files. Store the exported file somewhere safe like Documents so a driver reinstall cannot take it with it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Wacom settings?
Open the Wacom Tablet Preference Utility (PrefUtil in Program Files, Tablet, Wacom on Windows, Wacom Tablet Utility on Mac) and use its backup button. It writes a portable .wacomxs or .wacomprefs file. The cloud backup from older drivers is discontinued, so local files are the method now.
How do I copy Wacom settings to another user?
Copy your Wacom_Tablet.dat over the fresh one with the driver stopped, or place a prepared copy in C:\Windows\System32 for the classroom model where every new user inherits it. Per user defaults can also go in %APPDATA%\WTablet as WacomTabletUserDefaults.xml.
