Where Are WARDOGS Save Files Located?

WARDOGS saves live in Local AppData rather than Documents, with settings beside them in GameUserSettings.ini.

Last updated

WARDOGS keeps its data under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Wardogs\Saved. Saves sit in the SaveGames subfolder and settings in Config\WindowsClient, the standard Unreal Engine split. Note the root: Local AppData, not Documents, even though some launch week guides point at a My Games folder that retail builds do not use.

The game runs its own anti-cheat service, so treat the folder gently while it is running: no moving files out from under it mid-session. Saves are local with Steam Cloud mirroring them, and the launcher log in the same tree is the first thing support asks for when something breaks.

Where WARDOGS stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Wardogs\Saved\SaveGames

The .sav files here hold local progress, keybinds and tutorial flags. Paste the path into the Run dialog (Win+R) to jump straight there; AppData is hidden in Explorer.

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Wardogs\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameUserSettings.ini

Graphics, language and keybind settings. Edit with the game fully closed, or the client rewrites the file when it exits.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1867240/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Wardogs/Saved

Steam Deck and Linux installs run through Proton, so the Windows tree above reappears inside the prefix for app ID 1867240.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the WARDOGS config file?

AppData\Local\Wardogs\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameUserSettings.ini. On Steam Deck the same file lives inside the game's Proton prefix. Close the game before editing; patches occasionally reset it, so keep a copy if you tuned things carefully.

Does WARDOGS have Steam Cloud saves?

Yes, under app ID 1867240. That also means a stale cloud copy can win over a newer local one after a crash. Copy the SaveGames folder aside before you relaunch, then let the game sync normally.

Another guide says my save is in Documents\My Games\Wardogs. Which is right?

The verified location is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Wardogs\Saved. Run the game once and look for .sav files in the SaveGames folder there; that is the folder the game actually reads and writes.
