Where Does WebStorm Store Settings and Caches?
WebStorm splits versioned config, plugins, caches and logs across platform folders, matching every other JetBrains IDE.
Last updated
WebStorm follows the standard JetBrains layout: a versioned config folder for settings and plugins, plus a separate system folder for the bulky indexes and caches. Each major release gets its own numbered set.
That split is the cleanup lever. Deleting the system folder fixes broken indexing while settings survive untouched. New versions import from the previous folder on first launch, then prune releases idle for 180 days.
Where WebStorm stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\JetBrains\WebStorm2026.2
Config and plugins. Caches and logs sit under %LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\WebStorm2026.2. Match the version number to your installed release.
~/Library/Application Support/JetBrains/WebStorm2026.2
Config here, caches in ~/Library/Caches/JetBrains and logs in ~/Library/Logs/JetBrains under the same versioned name.
~/.config/JetBrains/WebStorm2026.2
Config here, plugins under ~/.local/share/JetBrains and caches under ~/.cache/JetBrains. Sync settings via JetBrains account to skip manual copying.
Frequently asked questions
how do i clear webstorm caches safely
Close WebStorm and delete only the system folder for your version, leaving config alone. Reopening rebuilds indexes, which takes a while on large JavaScript projects.
where did my webstorm settings go after upgrading
New majors create fresh folders and offer to import the old ones. If skipped, use File then Manage IDE Settings then Import Settings, or copy keymaps manually from the previous versioned folder.
