Where Are Whiskerwood Save Files Located?
Whiskerwood splits saves into _meta files and .whisker colony files under a Whiskerwood AppData folder.
Last updated
Whiskerwood keeps two kinds of files in its Saved directory: a _meta.sav describing the colony and .whisker files holding the actual settlement data. Both halves must travel together. Copying one without the other produces a colony the game refuses to load.
The paths differ by store on Mac, where the Epic build nests under an Epic folder in Application Support. Check which store's folder your install actually writes to before assuming a backup is complete.
Where Whiskerwood stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Whiskerwood\Saved
SaveGames holds _meta.sav while saves_player holds .whisker colony files. Copy the whole Saved folder so neither half goes missing.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2489330/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Whiskerwood/Saved
Proton prefix for Steam Deck and Linux desktops, app ID 2489330. Same _meta plus .whisker split inside.
Frequently asked questions
What are .whisker files?
Your colony data. Each settlement is a .whisker file paired with a _meta.sav descriptor. Restore or migrate both together or loads fail.
Why is my Whiskerwood Mac save in an Epic folder?
The Mac Epic build nests saves under Application Support/Epic/Whiskerwood instead of the Steam layout. Steam and Epic builds keep separate colonies.
