Where Do Xbox Game Bar Captures Go?
Where Game Bar drops clips and screenshots on Windows, and the setting that moves the folder.
Last updated
Game Bar saves clips and screenshots to Videos\Captures under your user profile. Win+Alt+R starts and stops a recording, Win+Alt+PrtScn grabs a still, and both land in that one folder without asking.
Captures mix with other apps output more often than people expect. Software like OBS, Discord and GeForce Experience default to nearby Videos subfolders, so a full disk investigation should check the whole Videos tree. Game Bar own temp files clear themselves once a recording finalizes.
Where Xbox Game Bar stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Videos\Captures
Paste %USERPROFILE%\Videos\Captures into Explorer. Change it under Settings > Gaming > Captures. Clips record as MP4, screenshots as PNG, each stamped with the game title and timestamp.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change where Game Bar saves clips?
Open Settings > Gaming > Captures and change the save location there. Existing clips stay where they are, so move them by hand if you want one folder. The same page sets recording length, quality and background buffer.
My C: drive fills while gaming but Captures looks empty. Why?
That is background recording keeping its rolling buffer (or a stuck session). Turn off Record in the background in the same Captures page, or check the Xbox Game Bar widget for an active timer. Clips only finalize into Captures when recording stops cleanly.
