Where Does WizTree Store Settings?

WizTree config file installed versus portable on Windows, and the registry override for fleets.

Last updated

WizTree decides its config home by install path: Program Files installs use %APPDATA%\WizTree3\WizTree3.ini, anything else (including portable zips) keeps the ini beside the exe. Non default install dirs like C:\WizTreeApp silently go portable, which confuses scripted deploys expecting AppData.

Fleets override via HKLM Antibody Software WizTree ConfigOverride (REG_SZ matching ini keys, ! prefix for read only) or /configfolder flags, with command line beating registry. High speed MFT scans need Always Run as Administrator; the ini key actRunAsAdmin_Checked=FALSE opts out. Old builds used WizFile.ini names; current is WizTree3.ini.

Where WizTree stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\WizTree3\WizTree3.ini

Installed (Program Files) location. Portable/elsewhere keeps WizTree3.ini beside exe. Enterprise overrides in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Antibody Software\WizTree\ConfigOverride (! prefix locks). Windows only.

Frequently asked questions

Why is WizTree ignoring my deployed settings?

Wrong home: installs outside Program Files read the beside exe ini, not AppData. Point automation at the live file (or force /configfolder) and match the edition.

How do I lock WizTree settings for all users?

Set them under HKLM ConfigOverride with matching ini key names, prefixing ! for read only. Installed edition only; portable builds ignore the registry route.
