Where Are World War Z Aftermath Save Files Located?

World War Z Aftermath stores local saves in AppData Saber WWZ storage, with Steam Cloud copies as .cfg files under userdata.

Last updated

Aftermath keeps two copies of one progression. Local files live in AppData under Saber WWZ client storage, inside a folder named with a long unique ID. The file is user_progression.dat. Steam Cloud keeps the same data as user_progression.cfg under userdata for app ID 699130.

Epic to Steam moves are a documented copy plus rename between those two spots. Launch the Steam build once first so both folders exist, then copy, delete the old cfg, and rename. Back up the storage tree before any of it, since Cloud conflict prompts can pick the wrong side.

Where World War Z: Aftermath stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Saber\WWZ\client\storage

Unique ID folder name varies per install. user_progression.dat is the file. Steam builds also mirror it as .cfg under userdata 699130 remote.

Windows
<SteamLibrary>/userdata/<userid>/699130/remote

Cloud copy of the same progression with a .cfg extension. Paste renamed .dat files here when migrating from Epic.

Linux
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/699130/pfx/

Proton prefix for app ID 699130. The Windows Saber storage path is mirrored inside the prefix drive.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move an Epic save to the Steam version?

Copy user_progression.dat from the unique ID folder into the Steam remote folder, delete the old .cfg, and rename the copy to .cfg. Pick local data if Cloud asks.

Are the .dat and .cfg files different saves?

No. The local .dat and the Cloud .cfg are the same progression in different wrappers. The rename step is what makes the transfer work.

My progress vanished. Where is the backup?

Check the Saber storage folder for backup copies before replaying anything. Saber support documents restoring from those locals when Cloud eats progress.
