Where Is the zrepl Config File?
zrepl runs off a single YAML file, /etc/zrepl/zrepl.yml, holding global settings plus every backup job.
Last updated
zrepl keeps the whole backup design in one YAML file: a global section for logging and monitoring, then a jobs list describing what snapshots to take and where to push them. The daemon loads it once at startup.
Big setups split the file with the include key, fanning jobs out into a directory while the main file stays small. Either way, there is exactly one file the daemon actually opens.
Where zrepl stores this, by platform
/etc/zrepl/zrepl.yml
Global plus jobs in one YAML file. Also accepts --config <path> and /usr/local/etc/zrepl/zrepl.yml as fallback. Validate with zrepl configcheck before restarting.
Frequently asked questions
How do I validate my zrepl config?
Run zrepl configcheck. It exits silently with code 0 on success, so any output means something needs fixing before the daemon will start.
My config is getting huge. Can I split it across files?
Add an include list to the main file pointing at a jobs directory. Included files append their jobs; names must stay unique across all of them.
