Where Does ACID Pro Store Projects and Loops?
ACID Pro projects, loop library and preferences on Windows, from Sonic Foundry roots to the Magix era.
Last updated
ACID Pro is Windows only and gloriously old school: projects (.acd) go wherever you save them, loops live in a library folder, and preferences sit in the MAGIX roaming tree. The Media Manager catalogs it all with tags and ACID metadata.
Set default folders early under Preferences. New projects inherit the project folder default, and the loop library path decides whether old songs open intact. Decide once, then stop moving folders.
Where ACID Pro stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\MAGIX\ACID Pro
Roaming preferences root following the Magix convention shared with Sound Forge. Default project and loop folders are set in Preferences, Folders tab. Projects reference media by path, so stable folders matter more than this tree.
Frequently asked questions
I moved my loop library, why are projects offline?
Point ACID at the new location through its folder preferences, or keep one stable loops drive forever. Moved loops show as offline in old projects until relinked, since events store source paths.
Do ACID projects embed their audio?
Yes. Save the .acd anywhere, but keep referenced audio stable. ACID projects point at source media rather than embedding it, so folder moves break old songs the same way.
Where do ACID loops come from?
Through the 9GB bundled ACIDized library plus Producer Planet packs. Factory loops install with the program; expansion content goes wherever you download it, then gets indexed by the Media Manager.
