Where Is the Android Downloads Folder?
Where Android keeps browser and app downloads in shared storage, and how scoped storage changed per app folders.
Last updated
Android downloads land in /storage/emulated/0/Download, the shared folder every browser and most apps default to. A PC over USB sees it as Phone\Internal storage\Download, same files with a translated prefix.
Scoped storage reshaped the edges: apps now need permission for broad shared storage, so many save into private folders instead. The Download folder stays the common ground for anything explicitly downloaded, while messaging attachments scatter into app specific directories.
Where Android stores this, by platform
/storage/emulated/0/Download
The 0 is the primary user profile; work profiles use numbered siblings. Files deleted here skip any trash unless the file manager provides one. SD card setups add a second tree under the card ID.
Frequently asked questions
Downloads exist on the phone but not over USB. Why?
Set USB to File transfer, unlock the phone, and wait: MTP builds listings lazily and charging mode shows nothing. Some files live in app private storage (Android/data) which MTP hides on newer versions; use the on device Files app for those.
Do all apps download into the Download folder?
No. Apps targeting modern Android versions save into their own Android/media or app specific folders, and only browsers and file managers default to Download. Check the app settings for its storage path before assuming Download.
