Where Does ArtRage Save Paintings?
ArtRage saves paintings as .ptg files where you choose, with gallery scripts and presets kept in its own app folders.
Last updated
ArtRage paintings are .ptg files and they go exactly where you put them with File then Save. The app never forces a paintings folder. Many artists keep a per series folder since .ptg files hold paint thickness that flat exports lose.
Support files sit apart. Recorded scripts land in an ArtRage Scripts folder for replaying strokes on desktop. Presets, stencils, and tracing images live in ArtRage resource folders. Mobile Vitae builds add an in app gallery plus share sheets for moving .ptg files to desktop.
Where ArtRage stores this, by platform
User-chosen folder (.ptg files)
Export PNG, JPG, or PSD for sharing; those flatten oils and watercolor. Scripts export to the ArtRage Scripts folder for stroke replay. Back up .ptg masters, not just exports.
User-chosen folder (.ptg files)
Same layout as Windows. A corrupted .ptg sometimes yields its preview PNG by importing it as an image, which rescues at least a flat copy of the work.
Frequently asked questions
How do I recover a ArtRage painting that will not open?
Try File and Import Image with the damaged .ptg, which can pull the embedded preview thumbnail as a flat image. It saves the picture but not the editable paint layers, so keep versioned saves.
Where are ArtRage scripts stored?
Export them from the gallery share menu into the ArtRage Scripts folder on your device, then mail or AirDrop them to desktop. Open the .ptg on desktop while recording to replay the strokes.
