Where Does asusctl Store Config and Profiles?

asusctl keeps system configs in /etc/asusd and per-user RGB and AniMe settings under ~/.config/rog.

Last updated

asusctl splits its files by privilege. System settings (power profiles, fan curves, charge limits, AniMe device options) live in /etc/asusd, while your RGB and AniMe personalizations sit in ~/.config/rog/rog-user.cfg.

Prefer the CLI over hand edits where you can. asusctl profile and the aura commands validate values that a typo in the RON files would silently break, and the daemon only picks up manual edits on restart.

Where asusctl stores this, by platform

Linux
/etc/asusd/

System daemon configs: asusd.conf (charge limit), profile.conf (fan curves, EC defaults on first run), anime.conf. Restart asusd.service after manual edits.

Frequently asked questions

How do I switch performance profiles?

Cycle them with asusctl profile next (bound to Fn+F5 on many models) or set one with asusctl profile set <name>. The file at /etc/asusd/profile.conf holds the fan curves behind those names.

How do I cap battery charging on my ASUS laptop?

Set bat_charge_limit in /etc/asusd/asusd.conf to a percentage like 80, then restart asusd. The limit applies at the EC level, so it survives reboots.
