Where Does KeePassium Store Databases and Settings?

Where the KeePassium iOS app keeps .kdbx databases in Files or iCloud Drive, plus all app settings.

Last updated

KeePassium splits storage two ways: .kdbx databases wherever you put them (On My iPhone, iCloud Drive, or other providers), and app settings in its iOS container. The app edits databases in place and writes back on save.

That split means database backups are file copies while settings migrate by hand. Offloading preserves documents but clears settings; deleting wipes both unless databases live outside the container. Keep .kdbx files in synced storage and the phone becomes replaceable.

Where KeePassium stores this, by platform

iOS
User-chosen .kdbx files (Files or iCloud)

Databases stay where you saved them; the app never consolidates. Recents break when files move, so re open rather than troubleshoot. iCloud version conflicts resolve in Files, not in KeePassium.

Frequently asked questions

how do i move keepassium databases to a new iphone

Move the .kdbx database files to the new device via iCloud Drive, Files, or AirDrop, then re open them in KeePassium. The app remembers locations, not contents, so databases travel as ordinary files. Settings like timeouts need separate reconfiguring.

where are my keepassium database files

Wherever you saved them: On My iPhone/KeePassium folder, iCloud Drive, or third party providers. KeePassium opens databases in place and writes back on save. The recents list only remembers paths, so moved files need re opening.

does offloading keepassium delete my databases

In the app container (preferences, recents, premium state) managed by iOS. Offloading the app preserves documents while clearing the container; deleting removes both. Databases outside the container survive either action when stored in Files or iCloud.
