Where Is the BeamNG.drive User Folder?
Where BeamNG.drive keeps its user folder with mods, settings and screenshots, and how the 2025 move changed it.
Last updated
BeamNG.drive splits program from personal files: the install folder holds the game, the user folder holds mods, settings, screenshots and career progress. Since the 2025 revamp the default user folder is %LOCALAPPDATA%\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current, with one stable name instead of a per version number.
Old guides point at Documents\BeamNG.drive or versioned AppData folders, both retired. The launcher is the authority now: Manage User Folder > Open in Explorer always lands on the live directory regardless of version history or custom moves.
Where BeamNG.drive stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current
Paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current into Explorer. Mods live in mods/, settings at the root. Prefer the launcher Manage User Folder button over memory: the path is user movable.
~/.local/share/BeamNG/BeamNG.drive/current
Native Linux build. Config moved to ~/.local/share/BeamNG (BeamNG.drive.ini holds a custom userFolder override). Same mods/ layout inside the user folder.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move the BeamNG user folder off C:?
Open the launcher, go to Manage User Folder and pick Move to custom location. The launcher updates its pointer and migrates the contents. Avoid cloud synced folders: locked files during sync cause the exact glitches the move is meant to fix.
An update emptied my mods. Where did they go?
That is the launcher cleanup after a major update: it clears caches and parks unknown files in a backup folder while deactivating mods. Your mods are in the backup, not deleted. Re enable them one by one once updated versions exist.
