Where Are Borderlands 3 Save Files Located?

Where Borderlands 3 keeps Vault Hunters and profile.sav per account ID, shared by Steam and Epic builds.

Last updated

Borderlands 3 stores saves in Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames, inside a folder named after your platform account ID. Steam and Epic builds share that one location, which makes cross store moves a plain folder copy rather than a conversion project.

Cloud conflicts are the recurring headache: Steam Cloud and Epic online saves each keep copies, and a stale cloud file can roll back a fresh session. Disable cloud sync while swapping files by hand, and keep dated backups outside Documents where neither client can reach them.

Where Borderlands 3 stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames\[AccountID]

Paste %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames into Explorer. The ID folder differs per platform account: run the game once on a new install so it exists before copying into it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Borderlands 3 saves between Steam and Epic?

Boot the game once on the new platform so it creates its ID folder, then copy everything from the old ID folder into the new one with the game closed. profile.sav (options, cosmetics, bank) travels with the numbered character files. Both builds read the same Documents path.

What is the difference between profile.sav and numbered saves?

They are different files. Numbered .sav files are Vault Hunters (one per character). profile.sav holds account wide data: options, unlocked cosmetics, bank contents and Guardian Rank. Back up both; restoring characters without the profile loses the shared half.
