Where Are Modern Warfare 3 (2023) Save Files Located?
Modern Warfare 3 (2023) keeps settings and config in a Documents players folder. Windows path plus the Linux Proton equivalent.
Last updated
The 2023 Modern Warfare 3 uses its own Documents folder with MWIII in the name. That suffix is the whole trick. Modern Warfare 2 uses MWII, Black Ops 6 uses a plain Call of Duty folder, so each game keeps its own players directory and they never share files.
Everything is server side for progress. The local folder holds settings, keybinds and graphics config. Copying it moves your setup, not your rank. Steam Cloud syncs the folder, and OneDrive backup of Documents can create duplicate copies that confuse restores.
Where Modern Warfare 3 (2023) stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Call of Duty MWIII\players
Settings, keybinds and graphics config live here. Steam and Battle.net use the same Documents path. Progress itself is tied to your Activision account, so this folder carries setup rather than unlocks.
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/3595270/pfx/
Steam Play prefix for app ID 3595270. The Documents path above is mirrored inside the prefix at drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Call of Duty MWIII/players.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Modern Warfare 3 settings on PC?
In %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Call of Duty MWIII\players. That folder holds keybinds, graphics and audio config. Your rank and unlocks live on Activision servers, so reinstalling and signing back in restores progress without any file copying.
Does copying the players folder move my progress?
It moves settings only. Campaign checkpoints and multiplayer rank are server side and follow your Activision account. Copy the folder to a new PC to keep keybinds and graphics, then sign in and let the servers supply the rest.
Why do I have MWII and MWIII folders?
Each reboot keeps its own folder. Modern Warfare 2 uses Call of Duty MWII and Modern Warfare 3 uses Call of Duty MWIII. Deleting the wrong one wipes that game's local settings, so check the suffix before cleaning.
