Where Are Call of Duty Settings and Config Files?

Call of Duty settings moved from Documents\Call of Duty\players to AppData\Local\Activision. Which folder you need depends on the year.

Last updated

Call of Duty's settings folder has moved. Black Ops 6 writes to Documents\Call of Duty\players, and the Warzone modes use that same folder because they run on the Black Ops 6 executable. Black Ops 7 moved to AppData\Local\Activision\Call of Duty\players instead.

Older releases kept their own folders under Documents, which is why a guide from two years ago can send you to a path that does not exist on your machine. Check the folders below in order and stop at the first one with files in it. All of them are ordinary user folders, so you can browse them with the game closed.

Where Call of Duty stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Call of Duty\players

Black Ops 6, and the Warzone modes that run on it. Modern Warfare II used Documents\Call of Duty MWII\players, and Black Ops Cold War used Documents\Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War\player\<uid>.

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Activision\Call of Duty\players

Where Black Ops 7 puts its settings after the move off Documents. Try this one when the Documents folder above comes up empty.

Linux
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/4384550/pfx/

Steam Play (Proton) prefix for Black Ops 6, app ID 4384550. The Windows layout is mirrored inside the prefix.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Warzone's settings?

Warzone has no folder of its own. The primary modes run on the Black Ops 6 executable and use Documents\Call of Duty\players, while the DMZ mode ran through Modern Warfare II's folder.

Which Call of Duty folder should I check first?

Documents\Call of Duty\players, since that holds Black Ops 6 and Warzone. If it is empty, use %LOCALAPPDATA%\Activision\Call of Duty\players, then the per-game Documents folders for anything older.

Where exactly are Black Ops Cold War's settings?

Documents\Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War\player\<uid>, where <uid> is your account folder. The settings file inside it is config.ini, which is what the game's own fix guides tell you to edit.
