Where Does the Chanty Desktop App Store Its Data?

Where the Chanty desktop app keeps sessions and cache on Windows and macOS, and how to sign back in.

Last updated

Chanty desktop is an Electron app, so its layout will look familiar if you have poked at Slack or Discord folders. Sessions, workspaces, and IndexedDB message cache live under a Chanty folder in AppData Roaming on Windows and Application Support on Mac. Logs sit beside them.

Cloud history is the safety net. Deleting local files logs you out or clears drafts, but channel messages return on sign in. For a full move, just install and sign in on the new machine. Copy local folders only when debugging a broken install, not for migration.

Where Chanty stores this, by platform

Windows
%appdata%\Chanty

Sessions and message cache live here. Delete the folder with the app closed for a clean logout. Cache subfolders can be cleared alone to keep your login.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Chanty

Same Electron layout under Application Support. Logs sit beside the session files. Use Go to Folder in Finder, since Library is hidden by default.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fix Chanty stuck on loading?

Delete the app cache folders and restart, then sign in again. Sessions live in the Chanty folder under Roaming (Windows) or Application Support (Mac). Removing them logs you out but leaves cloud history intact, since messages sync from the server.

Can I clear Chanty cache without logging out?

Yes, under the same app data roots. Look for Cache, Code Cache, and Local Storage subfolders. Clearing those drops temporary files without logging you out. Delete the whole Chanty folder only when you want a full logout and fresh sync.
