Where Does Nextcloud Talk Store Data on Desktop?

Nextcloud Talk Desktop keeps cache, logs and call recordings in Electron app data folders. Paths per desktop OS.

Last updated

Talk Desktop follows Electron conventions with data under its own name in platform app data. Cache, logs and call state live in that tree. Downloads and recordings go to a folder you can change in settings.

That split decides every hunt. Bloated disk means cache inside app data. Missing recording means the downloads target. Server side keeps the conversation history, so local files cover cache and media rather than the archive.

Where Nextcloud Talk stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Nextcloud Talk

Cache, logs and local state. Downloads and recordings live in the settings chosen folder outside this tree. Quit Talk fully before copying anything in or out.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Nextcloud Talk

Same interior as Windows. Use Go to Folder in Finder to reach it. Reinstalls find this folder and reuse cache, so clear it by hand for a truly clean slate.

Linux
~/.config/Nextcloud Talk

Follows XDG config home. Snap and Flatpak builds keep their own trees, so check those roots when this folder looks empty.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my Talk downloads and recordings?

Open Talk settings and check the download or storage section for the current target. Call recordings and shared files land there while cache stays in app data. Files saved before a path change remain in the old folder.

How do I move Talk to a new computer?

Copy the Nextcloud Talk app data folder with the app quit. Cache and local settings travel with it. Accounts sign back in with the server URL, since credentials do not move with files alone.
