Where Does Cura Store Profiles and Settings?
Cura's versioned config folder per OS, cura.cfg prefs, and cache split you should know.
Last updated
Cura versions its config folder, so each major release gets its own numbered directory and copies forward from the previous one on first launch. Settings, plugins and custom profiles live there while cache sits in a separate local tree.
The reliable opener is Help then Show Configuration Folder. Copying the whole version folder migrates printers, materials and quality profiles in one move.
Where Cura stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\cura\[Version]
Settings root with cura.cfg prefs inside. Cache separately at %LOCALAPPDATA%\cura\[Version]. Back up the Roaming version folder, not just single profiles.
~/Library/Application Support/Cura/[Version]
Same versioned layout with cura.cfg. Use Help > Show Configuration Folder to resolve the active version instead of guessing numbers.
~/.config/cura/[Version]
Prefs at cura.cfg here. User data trees also appear under ~/.local/share/cura/[Version]/settings. Keep both when migrating between machines.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Cura profiles to a new computer?
On the old machine open Help > Show Configuration Folder, go up one level, and copy the newest version folder. On the new machine replace the fresh version folder with it.
Why are there multiple Cura version folders?
Each release keeps its own config and seeds from the last one. The newest folder is the live one. Older folders are safe to archive once the new version opens correctly.
