Where Does DaVinci Resolve Store Projects?
DaVinci Resolve project library paths on Windows, macOS and Linux, plus where to export a portable .drp backup file.
Last updated
DaVinci Resolve does not save projects as loose files you can double click. Everything lives inside a project library folder called Resolve Disk Database, with each project kept as database files nested several levels deep. The parent path changed at version 16, so older tutorials point at the wrong location.
That confuses people the first time they go looking for their work. Do not move files inside that folder by hand. Open the Project Manager to back up a library, or right click a project and choose Export Project when you need a portable .drp file to move between machines. Cache and optimized media live outside the library on your Media Storage volume.
Where DaVinci Resolve stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database
AppData is hidden, so paste the path into the Explorer address bar. Machines that ran Resolve before version 16 may still use C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database instead.
~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database
Fresh installs since Resolve 16 use the user Library. Very old installs used /Library/Application Support instead, so check there if this path comes up empty.
~/.local/share/DaVinciResolve/Resolve Disk Database
A hidden dotfolder. Use Show Hidden Files in your file manager or list it with ls -a in a terminal.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move a DaVinci Resolve project to another computer?
Right click the project in the Project Manager and choose Export Project to make a .drp file. Copy that file over, then use Import Project on the other machine. It is far safer than copying database folders by hand.
Where is the render cache and optimized media?
Those live outside the project library, in hidden CacheClip, .gallery and OptimizedMedia folders at the root of your first Media Storage volume. You set that volume under Preferences > Media Storage.
