Where Does DCS World Store Missions and Settings?
DCS World keeps everything user-made in Saved Games: missions, liveries, joystick profiles and tracks. Folder map and version gotcha.
Last updated
DCS World draws a hard line between its install folder and your files. Modules, stock missions and paid campaigns live under Eagle Dynamics or Steam. Everything of yours, custom missions, campaigns, liveries, mods, joystick profiles, tracks, screenshots and graphics options, lives in Saved Games\DCS. That folder is the entire backup unit.
The version suffix is the trap. Different editions use DCS, DCS.openbeta and similar names side by side, each with a full independent tree, so pilots end up editing missions in the folder their install never reads. Check which folder your edition actually uses before organizing anything. DCS is Windows-only, so this is a one-platform post.
Where DCS World stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS
Edition name varies: DCS, DCS.openbeta and similar, each a full separate tree. Config holds options.lua and the Input folder with per-aircraft joystick profiles; Missions holds your .miz files under My Missions; Tracks, Liveries, Mods and Screenshots are siblings. Move the whole Windows Saved Games folder (Properties, Location tab) to relocate everything at once.
Frequently asked questions
how do i move dcs to a new pc without losing missions
Copy the whole Saved Games\DCS folder to the new machine's Saved Games location. Missions, campaigns, liveries, mods, joystick profiles and tracks all travel with it. Your purchased modules are tied to your Eagle Dynamics or Steam account and redownload; the folder holds everything money cannot re-fetch.
why do i have dcs and dcs.openbeta folders
You have two DCS editions installed. Stable uses Saved Games\DCS while open beta used Saved Games\DCS.openbeta, and each keeps a full separate Config, Missions and Mods tree. Copy the folders you want between them, or consolidate onto the one edition you actually fly.
how do i reset dcs controls to default
Delete or rename Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input, or just the misbehaving aircraft's subfolder, then relaunch. DCS rebuilds defaults and your controls page works again. This is Eagle Dynamics' own recommended fix when axis assignments stop responding after updates or hardware changes.
