Where Does DingTalk Store Cache and Chat Data?

DingTalk caches chat media and data in DingTalk folders under AppData on Windows and Containers on Mac.

Last updated

DingTalk scatters data across several folders. On Windows the account data sits in %APPDATA%\DingTalk (per-account numeric subfolders with _v2 media trees) while cache, temp files, SQLite databases, and logs sit in %LOCALAPPDATA%\DingTalk. On macOS the sandbox container is ~/Library/Containers/com.alibaba.dingtalk.mac.

The GifEmotionFiles folder is the famous space hog: thousands of sticker files totaling gigabytes in Roaming. Version-suffixed Local folders (DingTalk_63, DingTalk_87) are leftovers from past updates. Clear through the app first; hand-deleting the database folder forces a full re-sync.

Where DingTalk stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\DingTalk

Account media under numeric _v2 subfolders; GifEmotionFiles is the gigabyte-scale sticker cache. Cache/Temp/Log/DB live in the Local twin. Quit fully before touching either.

macOS
~/Library/Containers/com.alibaba.dingtalk.mac

Sandbox container with the same cache and database layout inside. Symlink with ln -s to relocate; back up before rewiring.

Frequently asked questions

How do I safely free DingTalk disk space?

Use the in-app cleanup first (Settings > General > Clear cache). For manual surgery, quit DingTalk fully, then clear the Cache, Temp, and Log folders. Leave the DB folder unless you accept re-downloading chat history.

Can I move DingTalk cache to another drive?

DingTalk does not offer a move option, so the community method is a directory junction: quit DingTalk, move the folder, then mklink /J from the old path to the new one. Back up first; a broken link reads as missing data.
