Where Does Dorico Save Projects and Settings?
Dorico projects go to a folder you choose in Preferences, while settings live in versioned app data. Paths for Windows and Mac.
Last updated
Dorico projects are plain files that go exactly where you put them. The starting point is the Default Project Folder under Preferences > General > Files, and you can change it any time. Backup copies land next to your projects unless you pointed them elsewhere.
The app's own settings are separate. Playback templates, key commands and your user library sit in a versioned Steinberg folder in app data. Copy that folder to reproduce your setup on a second machine. Leave preferences.xml behind or check it first, since it can hold machine-specific paths like the auto-save location.
Where Dorico stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Steinberg\Dorico 5
User library, templates and logs. The number tracks your major version, so expect Dorico 6 beside it after an upgrade. Jump-bar aliases stay in the registry and don't travel with this folder.
~/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Dorico 5
Same role as on Windows, including saved options and application logs. Reach it through Finder > Go > Go to Folder. Match the version number to the Dorico release you run.
Frequently asked questions
Where does Dorico save my scores by default?
In the Default Project Folder set under Preferences > General > Files > Saving Projects. Tick Show complete path for recent files in the Hub if you keep losing track. Backups sit in the Backup folder configured on the same page.
How do I move Dorico settings to another computer?
Copy the versioned app-data folder above, but skip preferences.xml unless you check its paths first. It can reference folders that don't exist on the new machine, especially the auto-save path. Recreate those folders or reset them in Preferences.
