Where Does Downcast Store Downloaded Episodes?

Downcast downloads episodes into a hidden .Downloaded_Media folder in its Mac container. Path, custom locations and iCloud sync.

Last updated

Downcast on Mac tucks downloaded episodes into a .Downloaded_Media folder deep inside its sandbox container. The dot prefix hides it from casual browsing, and the container path is long enough that nobody finds it twice without bookmarks.

You can escape the maze. Preferences lets you move the media library anywhere, and Downcast gains permission to that spot automatically. Subscriptions and playlists sync over iCloud between devices, but episode files themselves do not follow. Each device downloads its own copies.

Where Downcast stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Containers/com.jamawkinaw.downcast.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/com.jamawkinaw.downcast.mac/.Downloaded_Media

Default episode storage inside the sandbox. Reach ~/Library with Go > Go to Folder in Finder. Move the library in Preferences to a friendlier spot; only the container and that folder stay accessible.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change where Downcast saves episodes?

Open Downcast Preferences and pick a new media library location. Downcast requests sandbox permission for it once. Existing downloads stay put until redownloaded, so move old files over yourself if space is tight.

Do Downcast downloads sync between Mac and iPhone?

No. iCloud syncs subscriptions, settings and playlists, never audio files. Each device fetches its own copies. Locked episodes and in-progress downloads are additionally protected from sync-driven deletion.
