Where Are Riverside Recordings Stored Before Upload?
Riverside records locally in your browser's temp storage, then uploads. Where those tracks sit on Windows and Mac, and the cache trap.
Last updated
Riverside captures each guest locally at full quality, then uploads progressively during the call. Until upload finishes, the only copy of a track is inside that browser's temporary storage. There is no playable video file on disk yet, so don't go hunting for one.
The critical rule: never clear the browser cache or close the tab before upload completes. That deletes the unuploaded tracks permanently. If storage runs low, finish pending uploads at riverside.com/upload from the same computer and browser. Tracks erase themselves from temp storage once safely uploaded.
Where Riverside stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
Riverside tracks hide inside Chrome's internal IndexedDB storage under this profile, not as video files. Edge uses the same layout under ...\Microsoft\Edge\User Data. Keep 5 GB or more free for long sessions.
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default
Same internal browser storage as Windows. Safari and the Riverside macOS desktop app manage their own equivalents. Check riverside.com/upload with DevTools > Application > Storage to see pending data.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play Riverside local recording files directly?
No. Until upload finishes and Riverside processes them, tracks exist only as fragments in browser temp storage. Wait for the upload to complete, then download the High Quality Track from your Riverside dashboard as a normal file.
I cleared my cache mid-upload, are my tracks gone?
The local copies are gone, and Riverside can't rebuild them. Ask the guest to revisit riverside.com/upload in the same browser in case fragments remain. Otherwise the segment needs re-recording, ideally with the desktop app.
