Where Are Dying Light 2 Save Files Located?

Dying Light 2 splits saves by storefront: Steam uses its userdata tree, Epic uses a Documents folder with automatic backups.

Last updated

Techland documents two save homes and they share nothing. Steam builds write into the userdata tree under app ID 534380. Epic builds write under Documents in a Techland style out folder.

The Epic side is friendlier in a crisis. A save_backups folder next to the live saves holds automatic copies, which official support points to for recovery. Steam players get cloud sync instead, with the same userdata folder as the restore source when sync disagrees.

Where Dying Light 2 stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[your ID]\534380\remote\out

Live saves sit under remote\out. Epic builds instead use %USERPROFILE%\Documents\dying light 2\out\storage with save_backups beside it.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/534380/pfx/

Steam Play prefix for the Windows build. Epic builds have no Linux path, so this covers Steam only.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move saves between Steam and Epic?

Copy the out folder contents across, keeping the same storefront. Steam and Epic builds read different roots, so cross store moves need the files placed in the other root by hand and cloud sync off during the swap.

Are there automatic backups if a save corrupts?

Yes. The game writes rolling backups into save_backups beside the live saves. Copying the newest backup over the live files rewinds a broken run without replaying the city.
