Where Does EverQuest Store Config and Characters?
EverQuest keeps characters server-side with per-character INI files and UI layouts in the game folder.
Last updated
EverQuest characters live on Daybreak servers, so no backup can lose them. What lives on disk is all interface: per-character INI files with hotbars and settings, UI layout files, and the client options file, all in the game folder.
Veterans copy the same handful of files to every fresh install and skip the setup screens entirely. The naming pairs each character with its server, so alts never collide. Keep those inis with your gaming backups and every new machine feels like home on first login.
Where EverQuest stores this, by platform
<InstallDir>\*.ini (character + UI files)
Per-character settings and UI layouts (Character_Server.ini and UI_ files) plus eqclient.ini, all in the install folder. Copy to any fresh install for instant setup.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/205710/pfx/
Proton prefix for the Windows build (AppID 205710). The install-folder ini files sit under the prefix's steamapps path.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move my UI setup to a new PC?
Copy your character and UI ini files to the new install folder. Log in and the layouts return exactly, hotbars and all. Server holds everything else.
