Where Is the Finicky Config File?

Finicky routes every link from a single JavaScript config at ~/.finicky.js in your home folder on Mac.

Last updated

Finicky lives in one file. The config sits at ~/.finicky.js and holds your default browser plus rewrite and handler rules. Finicky itself only needs to be set as the default browser. Everything else is JavaScript.

Keep the file small at first. One default browser, two or three handlers for work versus personal domains, and a Zoom rewrite if you join meetings from links. Complex regex belongs later, after the basics route correctly.

Where Finicky stores this, by platform

macOS
~/.finicky.js

Single JS or TS config. Create it by hand or copy the example from the docs. Finicky watches the file, so saves apply fast. Keep a backup before big rewrites.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a new browser rule?

Open ~/.finicky.js in a text editor and add a handler with a match pattern and a browser name. Save the file. Finicky picks up the change without a restart. Test with a link that matches the new rule.

Links ignore Finicky. What did I miss?

Set Finicky as the default browser in System Settings, then launch Finicky once so its troubleshooting window confirms the setup. Links will start flowing through your handlers. Check the defaultBrowser field for unmatched URLs.
