Where Are Genshin Impact Screenshots and Save Files?

Where Genshin Impact puts screenshots on PC, and why your real progress lives on HoYoverse servers instead of your disk.

Last updated

On PC, photos taken with the in game camera land in a ScreenShot folder inside the Genshin Impact Game install directory. With default settings that is C:\Program Files\Genshin Impact. If you moved the install or use the HoYoverse launcher, the screenshots sit next to the game executable wherever you put it.

Your actual save needs no backup. Progress is stored server side against your HoYoverse account, so the local disk only holds settings, logs and cache under AppData\LocalLow in a miHoYo or HoYoverse folder (the name depends on which launcher installed your copy). Guard your account login, not a folder.

Where Genshin Impact stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files\Genshin Impact\Genshin Impact Game\ScreenShot

The folder name has a capital S in the middle (ScreenShot). It only appears after your first in game photo. If you installed elsewhere, search File Explorer for "Genshin Impact Game" and open the ScreenShot folder inside it.

Android
Gallery (camera roll)

In game photos save to the system photo album, not a game folder. There is no save file to copy: progress syncs through your HoYoverse account, so logging in on a new phone restores everything.

iOS
Photos app (camera roll)

Same as Android. Photos from the in game camera appear in the Photos app. Account progress restores itself on login, so a device move needs no file transfer.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to back up my Genshin save before reinstalling?

You do not. Characters, wishes, exploration and inventory are tied to your HoYoverse account on their servers. Reinstall, log back in on any device, and everything is there. Local files only hold settings and cache.

Why is there no ScreenShot folder in my game directory?

The folder is only created after your first photo mode shot, and Print Screen screenshots go to the clipboard, not the folder. Take a photo with the in game camera once, then look again.
