Where Does Glimpse Store Config and Profiles?

Glimpse config on Windows, macOS and Linux, plus why GIMP paths help when folders differ.

Last updated

Glimpse was a GIMP fork, so it mirrors GIMP profile conventions per OS. Brushes, gradients and prefs sit in a versioned Glimpse folder in home.

The project is discontinued, so exact names froze in time. When a Glimpse folder is missing, check the parallel GIMP profile path for the pattern. Artwork itself stays where you saved it.

Where Glimpse stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Glimpse\2.10\

Profile with brushes, scripts and gimprc. Some builds use %USERPROFILE%\.config\Glimpse\ instead, so check both. Copy with the app closed.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Glimpse/2.10/

Mac profile path. Older builds fall back to ~/.config/Glimpse/2.10/. Images stay in Pictures or project folders, never here.

Linux
~/.config/Glimpse/2.10/

Follows XDG config home. Plug-ins sit in a plug-ins subfolder. Since the fork is unmaintained, keep a copy before distro upgrades change dependencies.

Frequently asked questions

Is Glimpse still maintained?

No. The fork stalled and most users returned to GIMP. The profile paths above still work for existing installs. Export brushes before migrating to current GIMP.

Where are my Glimpse images?

Wherever you saved them as XCF, PNG or JPEG. The profile only holds tools. Search home for .xcf when a project goes missing.
