Where Does Godot Store Settings and Projects?
Godot keeps editor settings in a per OS data folder, while projects stay wherever you created them.
Last updated
Godot separates the editor from your work cleanly. Editor settings, recent projects list and export templates live in the platform data folder. Project files never leave the folder you created for them.
That split makes the editor disposable. Deleting its data folder resets preferences and the project list without touching a single game. Re-adding project folders takes a minute per project.
Where Godot stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Godot
Editor settings in editor_settings-4.x.cfg plus app_userdata per project version. Export templates sit in .tpz form under templates. Projects remain in their own folders elsewhere.
~/Library/Application Support/Godot
Same layout. Use Go to Folder in Finder. Clearing it forgets recent projects, which return through Import in the project manager.
~/.config/godot
XDG config home equivalent with the same internals. Version suffixes on settings files keep Godot 3 and 4 installs from colliding.
