Where Does GoldWave Store Sounds and Settings?
GoldWave sound folders, temp storage and settings backup on Windows, and why uninstalls eat working folders.
Last updated
GoldWave stores working audio wherever Options, Storage points: memory for speed or a hard drive folder for big sessions, plus configurable undo depth. Presets live in gwpreset.ini. The whole setup backs up to one file through GoldWave Setup.
The working folder warning is real. Whatever folder holds temp audio gets deleted on uninstall, so pointing it at Documents or music collections destroys data. Give temp files their own disposable directory.
Where GoldWave stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files\GoldWave
Binaries and help live here; per user settings travel via the Setup backup tool rather than raw files. Set sound and temp folders under Options, Storage on first run. Keep temp on a large local drive, never inside a media collection.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move GoldWave settings to a new PC?
Open GoldWave Setup from the Start menu and use Backup Settings to file. Restoring on the new machine brings presets, folders and options in one shot. Major version jumps may still need manual transfer.
Why did uninstalling GoldWave delete my files?
Never point it at a general storage folder. Uninstalls delete the working folder permanently, and GoldWave warns about this explicitly. Keep a dedicated temp directory.
How do I change where GoldWave keeps temp audio?
Under Options, Storage. Choose memory for small files or hard drive with a roomy temp folder for large ones, plus undo levels to taste. Big undo counts on huge files devour disk fast.
