Where Does Homarr Store Boards and Database?

Where Homarr keeps its appdata, boards and SQLite database.

Last updated

Homarr persists boards, integrations and users in /appdata with db.sqlite as the database file plus configs children. The encryption key env var guards stored credentials, so it must survive alongside the data.

Older layouts used /app/data/configs paths that confuse migrators. Keep the whole appdata mount plus the key together; one without the other restores boards without working integrations.

Where Homarr stores this, by platform

Linux
<homarr appdata>/db/db.sqlite

Appdata mount with db.sqlite and configs. Keep SECRET_ENCRYPTION_KEY with backups or credentials break on restore. Watch for old vs new internal paths when migrating.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Homarr to a new host?

Use the Download all boards export plus a copy of the appdata tree with db.sqlite. Restores need matching container paths (/appdata, /app/data/configs), which tripped up migrators in support threads.

What is the Homarr encryption key for?

Generate a 64 hex char string and set SECRET_ENCRYPTION_KEY before first boot. Integrations and credentials encrypt with it, so losing the key orphans stored secrets on restore.
