Where Does Icedrive Store Synced Files?
Icedrive mounts your cloud as a virtual drive and syncs only the pairs you define, so both the drive letter and the local folders are your choice.
Last updated
Icedrive's desktop app is two tools in one, and the files live in different places depending on which half you use. The virtual drive mounts your cloud like an extra hard disk for on-demand access with caching. Sync pairs mirror chosen local folders against cloud folders continuously.
Neither side has a fixed path. You pick the drive letter or mount point, and you pick each synced folder when creating the pair. The app remembers the pairs across updates (with one historical exception noted in their release notes), so the pair list is the source of truth.
Where Icedrive stores this, by platform
[Chosen drive letter, e.g. I:]\
The letter you assigned when enabling the virtual drive. Sync pairs are separate: each mirrors one local folder you chose. The pair list in the app is the reliable record of those folders.
/Volumes/[Chosen drive name]
Pick the mount point in the app settings. Apple silicon Macs need an extra install step for the mounted drive, documented in Icedrive's release notes. Sync pairs work the same as on Windows.
[Chosen mount point]
Set the mount point in the Mounts tab to an empty directory. Sync pairs must point at local disks; mapped network locations have a history of sync errors in the v3 client.
Frequently asked questions
How do I list every folder Icedrive touches?
In the desktop app, review your sync pairs: each names its local folder. For an overview of linked machines, open the web app and go to the avatar menu, then Access, then Sync Devices.
Is my data actually stored on my disk or just streamed?
It can be either. A mounted drive streams on demand with local caching, so files appear without occupying full disk space. A sync pair mirrors both ways. Pick sync for offline work and mount for browsing large archives.
