Where Does odrive Store Data and Config?

odrive syncs into an odrive folder in home, with program data in a dotfolder beside it. Desktop and agent paths.

Last updated

odrive keeps synced files and its own machinery in two neighboring folders. The visible one is called odrive in your home directory, holding placeholder .cloudf files that download on open. The hidden one is .odrive beside it, holding the app binaries, version info and databases.

Linux has no desktop GUI, only the sync agent with its own .odrive-agent folder. Advanced tuning lives in text files: general and premium conf files at the sync root for desktop, or inside the agent folder. The tray menu moves the sync folder when the default drive fills.

Where odrive stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\odrive

Sync root with .cloudf placeholders. Program data sits in %USERPROFILE%\.odrive with bin and version beneath. Agent-only setups use %USERPROFILE%\.odrive-agent instead. Move the folder from the tray menu.

macOS
~/odrive

Same sync root on Mac. Program data in ~/.odrive, agent data in ~/.odrive-agent. Older installs may reference /Library/Application Support/odrive, so check there when the dotfolder is absent.

Linux
~/.odrive-agent

Linux runs the headless sync agent only. This folder holds its database and config. The sync content itself lands wherever the agent was pointed, commonly ~/odrive. CLI examples use $HOME/odrive/*.cloudf paths.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my odrive folder?

At ~/odrive on Mac and Linux agents, or C:\Users\<you>\odrive on Windows, unless moved from the tray menu. Placeholder .cloudf files there stand in for cloud files until opened. The .odrive dotfolder beside it is program data, not synced content.

How do I back up odrive settings?

Copy the .odrive or .odrive-agent folder plus the user conf text files at the sync root. Synced files need their own backup like any folder. Treat copies as secrets when placeholders embed share links.

Why is there no odrive app on Linux?

Linux ships the sync agent without a desktop GUI. Configure it through the CLI and the .odrive-agent folder. The same placeholders and conf files apply, just without tray menus.
