Where Does IDA Pro Store Projects and Settings?
IDA Pro keeps databases beside the binary, with settings and plugins in a Hex-Rays folder per OS.
Last updated
IDA splits its world in two. The disassembly database lives wherever you save it, usually next to the analyzed binary. Personal settings, keymaps and plugins live separately in a Hex-Rays folder per user.
That split makes databases portable and settings personal. Copy an .i64 file to another machine and it opens with that machine's own configuration. Version upgrades sometimes migrate the settings folder, so keep a copy before jumping majors.
Where IDA Pro stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Hex-Rays\IDA Pro
Settings, plugins and theme files. Databases (.idb/.i64) stay wherever you saved them, commonly the target's folder. Back up both for a full move.
~/Library/Application Support/IDA Professional
Same role on Mac. Folder naming follows the edition, so confirm by date if a versioned variant appears instead.
~/.idapro
Dot folder in home with settings and plugins. Databases remain with their binaries. Copy both trees to migrate a workstation.
