Where Are Into the Breach Save Files Located?

Into the Breach saves and settings on Windows, macOS and Linux, which two .lua files matter, and how to reset a run.

Last updated

Into the Breach stores everything in one small folder: saves.lua holds campaigns and unlocks, settings.lua holds options and key bindings. There is no separate profile system to untangle, so the whole folder is the backup.

The parent folder name differs by OS but the files inside are identical, which makes cross platform transfers trivial. Steam Cloud covers the desktop builds. Copy the folder with the game closed and cloud sync paused, or the cloud copy wins on next launch.

Where Into the Breach stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\My Games\Into The Breach

saves.lua is progress, settings.lua is options. Copy both together. The Documents path follows Windows folder redirection, so check there first if you moved Documents.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/IntoTheBreach

Same two .lua files, no space in the folder name unlike Windows. Use Go to Folder in Finder since Library is hidden.

Linux
~/.local/share/IntoTheBreach

Follows the XDG data home, so it moves if you set XDG_DATA_HOME. The files transfer cleanly to Windows or Mac builds.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset Into the Breach progress?

Close the game and delete saves.lua from the folder, keeping settings.lua so your bindings survive. Disable Steam Cloud first or it restores the deleted file.

Can I move an Into the Breach save to another OS?

Yes. The .lua files are platform neutral, so drop them into the matching folder on the target machine with the game closed. Confirm the transfer loaded before re-enabling cloud sync.
