Where Does Jitsi Meet Store Local Data?
Jitsi Meet Electron cache per OS, and why meeting content is never in it.
Last updated
The Jitsi Meet desktop app is a thin Electron wrapper around the web client, so local data is wrapper state only: %APPDATA%\Jitsi Meet on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Jitsi Meet on Mac, ~/.config/Jitsi Meet on Linux (the one path its own README documents, via a cache clearing step).
Meeting content never touches these folders; audio, video and chat live on the server you joined. The Linux path is doc verified while Windows and Mac follow Electron convention (productName confirmed in package.json), so treat those two as may vary. Legacy Jitsi Desktop (Java SIP client) used entirely different folders; SIP Communicator paths in a guide mean the old app.
Where Jitsi Meet stores this, by platform
~/.config/Jitsi Meet/
Electron wrapper cache and settings ($XDG_CONFIG_HOME respected). Documented in the official README troubleshooting (rm -rf for blank page after server upgrades). No meeting history inside.
%APPDATA%\Jitsi Meet\
Standard Electron userData (config, cache, window state, logs). Follows convention from verified productName; no per OS Jitsi doc, so may vary. Meeting content stays server side.
~/Library/Application Support/Jitsi Meet/
Same wrapper state role as other OSes. Convention derived, may vary. Legacy Java client used ~/Library/Application Support/Jitsi instead (different app).
Frequently asked questions
Where are my Jitsi Meet recordings stored?
On the meeting server (or its configured Dropbox), never in local app data. The desktop folders hold Chromium session state only; check the meeting organizer for recording access.
Jitsi Meet desktop shows a blank page. How do I fix it?
Clear the wrapper cache: delete ~/.config/Jitsi Meet on Linux (or the Roaming/Application Support equivalents) and relaunch. The official README prescribes exactly this after server upgrades.
