Where Does Mainsail Keep Config and Logs?

Mainsail itself is static files in ~/mainsail, while printer config lives in ~/printer_data through Moonraker.

Last updated

Mainsail is a static web interface with no server state of its own. The files served to your browser sit in ~/mainsail, installed by KIAUH or MainsailOS. Everything you change lives elsewhere, in the Moonraker data tree.

Printer configuration, macros, the Moonraker database, and logs all sit under ~/printer_data. Interface settings like theme persist into the Moonraker database rather than local files. Back up printer_data and any rebuild keeps its identity.

Where Mainsail stores this, by platform

Linux
~/printer_data

Config in config, UI state in database, logs in logs. The ~/mainsail folder beside it holds only static interface files. Copy printer_data with printing idle.

Frequently asked questions

Where is printer.cfg on a Mainsail install?

In ~/printer_data/config beside moonraker.conf and included snippets. Edit through the Mainsail interface or SSH. Restart Klipper after changes so the new config loads.

How do I back up a Mainsail setup?

Copy ~/printer_data to safe storage with printing idle. That folder holds config, Moonraker database, and history. The ~/mainsail files need no backup since reinstalls fetch them.
