Where Does KopiaUI Store Settings and Repos?

KopiaUI keeps its Electron settings in the OS app data folder, with repo passwords in the system keychain.

Last updated

KopiaUI stores interface settings and repository definitions in the platform app data folder under its own name. Snapshots themselves live in the connected repositories, never in these files. Connection passwords stay out of them in the OS keychain.

The CLI tool Kopia uses a separate config location, so the two do not share connections automatically. Point both at the same repository to manage one backup set from either side. Exact inner filenames have moved across KopiaUI releases.

Where KopiaUI stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/KopiaUI

UI settings and repo definitions live here. CLI Kopia configs sit separately under .config/kopia. Passwords resolve through the keychain.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/KopiaUI

Same Electron user data layout on Mac. Repositories stay remote or on disk outside this folder. Exact inner names vary by release.

Windows
%APPDATA%\KopiaUI

Same tree under Roaming. Server mode credentials resolve through Windows Credential Manager. Reconnect repos after migrating machines.

Frequently asked questions

Does KopiaUI share config with Kopia CLI?

No. Each keeps its own connection entries in different folders. Point both at the same repository path to share snapshots. Policies sync through the repo itself.

Where are my backup passwords?

In the OS keychain, never in the config files. Config files hold server addresses and usernames only. Reconnecting prompts for missing secrets.
