Where Does Milanote Store Offline Data on Desktop?

Milanote lives in the cloud, with desktop apps caching boards locally for offline viewing only.

Last updated

Milanote boards live on its servers. Desktop apps keep a local cache so recent boards open offline, but that cache is not a backup you can move. Shared boards follow the same rule: access ends when membership ends. Treat the account as the storage.

Real safety means export. Milanote exports boards to PDF, image, or text from the board menu. Run those before big reorganizations. Clearing app data only forces a refetch, it never deletes cloud boards.

Where Milanote stores this, by platform

Windows
In-app cache (Electron storage)

Offline viewing cache only. Exact folder varies by installer build, so do not rely on copying it. Export boards for anything you must keep.

macOS
In-app cache (Electron storage)

Same cloud first model. Export from the board menu before leaving a workspace or downgrading. Cache wipes never touch server boards.

Frequently asked questions

Can I back up Milanote boards locally?

Export each board to PDF or image from its menu. There is no full account dump. Keep exports with project files for client work that must survive account changes.

Does clearing Milanote cache delete boards?

No. It only removes local copies and forces fresh downloads. Boards stay in the account. Log back in on any device to see everything again.
